Manganese (Mn), as an important alloying element, is closely tied to the steel industry. Many specialty steels contain significant quantities of manganese. Other important uses of manganese occur in the cast iron and aluminum industries where it is used as an alloy addition to aluminum that is used for beverage containers. It is used as a coating materials for protection of metallic interconnect of fuel cells. It is also used as a doping material co-evaporated with other materials.
